“Ikat Velvet” Wrap-around mini-kimono

A "mini kimono" wrap-around top in velvet knit printed with "ikat" patterns with borders in ikat of royal silk handcrafted from Thailand lined royal Thai silk as well.

It was by composing this range of fabrics with purplish shades that we were inspired to create this unique piece.  And before having the honor of reworking these beautiful fabrics in our studio, Julie, the designer spent years collecting and studying the fabrics and the stories they tell. This deep interest in combining textiles of all kinds is at the heart of her creative process.

The patterned silk that was used for the belt, the cuffs and the neckline comes from Thailand, it is a precious fabric that has been woven and dyed entirely by hand using a special technique called ikat.

The belt lining, cuffs and collar is also handcrafted silk from Thailand.

The velvet jersey gives this wrap a rather supple drape, while the wide silk borders that frame it give it a certain hold and a more structured appearance. The edges of the cuffs are perfectly finished and can therefore be rolled up, revealing the silk used in the lining.

This crossover can be worn in three different ways:

1. crossed tightly under the bust and tied above the waist
2. crossed leaving the neckline more indented and tied a little lower
3. the sections of the belt tied at the front like a vest to wear over a long dress for example.

Made with great care and finesse, this unique piece, entirely handmade, required six hours of cutting and sewing.
