This vintage fabric patchwork bomber jacket is very refined. It is made of an assemblage of artisanal embroidery from Thailand, floral prints from the 60s and 70s and a quilted Indian "khanta" fabric.
• This reversible jacket was made in Brussels, in particular from one of the most beautiful textiles ever integrated into our collections: Thai artisanal embroidery on the bib and the patch pockets at the front.
• Its lining was made from different cottons with floral prints. The facing, which frames the lining and gives this jacket a very nice hold, was cut from a sample of screen printing that the designer had made while she was still a student in textile design.
It was by composing this range of fabrics that Julie, the designer was inspired to create this unique bomber jacket. And before having had the honor of reworking these superb fabrics in her atelier, she spent years collecting and studying them to enhance the stories they tell. This deep interest in combining textiles of all kinds is at the heart of her creative process.
This unique piece with exceptional fabrics reflects an authentic approach to upcycling which also promotes artisanal textile know-how and creates bridges between cultures.
Unlike most bomber jackets, the cut of this model is rather fitted at the shoulders, which makes it very elegant. The chest darts have been embedded in the assembly of the slightly inclined "V" breastplate. This jacket is fully reversible, lined in cotton and impeccably finished. It is comfortable and easy to wear, for example with everyday jeans or a beautiful skirt from my collection.
Made with great care and finesse, this unique piece, entirely handmade, required twelve hours of work for the cut and the research of composition with the fabrics. To this must be added all the neat and meticulous sewing work dedicated to the assembly and finishing stages which were carried out by our team in Brussels.
• The set was presented on the catwalk of the 3 rd International Thai Silk Fashion Week where Julie Menuge had the pleasure of representing Belgium as a Brussels designer.
