“Bazin Black White Dots” Dress

This two-sided dress is perfectly symmetrical.

Versatile, you can wear it on both sides. It combines handcrafted West African bazin with English embroidery.

It was while composing this range of textiles that I was inspired to create this unique dress. Before having the honor of reworking these beautiful fabrics in my studio, I spent years collecting and studying fabrics and the stories they tell. This deep interest in combining textiles of all kinds is the basis of my creative process.

The magnificent black and white batik with polka dot patterns that makes up one of the two sides of this dress is a prestigious textile, originating from Mali: Bazin. Made of damask cotton, with a particular shine, it required several stages of work and various specialized skills to create. It was designed freehand by Mambi Sangaré in Bamako.

The second side of this dress was cut from a repurposed black embroidered cotton fabric.

The cut of this dress, which is rather flared from the bottom to the top, is perfectly symmetrical, without darts at the chest. Its slightly scooped neckline falls slightly onto the shoulder.

You can pair it with a belt from my collection.

A rather loose and airy dress for walking around in summer, or more dressy if you cinch your waist by adding a belt.

Made with great care and finesse, this unique piece, entirely handmade , required five hours of work, from the search for fabrics through the composition of the patchwork to the stages of production.
