These shorts in patchwork of upcycled football clothes is super beautiful.
I created it by assembling pieces of reused fabrics, from second-hand sports materials, to give them a second life.
This unique piece was presented during the Football X Fashion show in Brussels, a choreographed fashion show, which you may have attended, as part of the Art Plus People festival. You can see the images of this show on my Instagram account @julie_menuge
This collection inspired by the world of football, gives great importance to the patchwork technique.
I started by cutting different pieces of fabric from collected football shirts. Then I assembled them to recreate a new creation based on the initial cut of the football shorts model.
Made with great care and attention to detail, these unique shorts were entirely handmade by myself in my workshop in Brussels. It took me more than 6 hours of work to develop the color range, decide on the placement of the patterns, for its graphic composition up to the sewing and finishing work.
This authentic creation is part of my upcycling approach which, in addition to promoting artisanal textile know-how, creates bridges between cultures, such as football and fashion.
And also, I think it's a good idea to combine the vintage floral patterns of our grannies' dresses with fluorescent sports fabrics.
What's the connection between the two? It's the same technology that was used to create all these textile materials in the first place, the same old overproduction industry that needs to be recycled and regenerated through creation. I dedicate myself to it every day with humor and love for the mix of genres and poetry ;)
