This crop-kimono, made from a patchwork of jeans and indigo artisan fabrics, is truly beautiful.
Inspired by a vintage model that you really liked, I was motivated to remake this jacket cut, short and comfortable, with its "bat" sleeves.
It's very well finished, I guarantee it. And that's even why you wonder if it's " reversible ," just before succumbing to its charm the moment you open it. You discover its lining, on the other side shades of blue, gray-blue, indigo... The heroine of a cartoon on a printed bed sheet!
Perhaps you've already identified, on the one hand: reused pieces of denim of different qualities, vintage handcrafted indigo Tie & Dye cotton from Mali, and a double-sided wool weave with small polka dots and checks. I assembled them and reinforced them from the inside to recreate the material and the pattern at the same time. And when I ran out of fabric to cut them into diamond shapes, I made even more mini patchwork diamonds from all the leftovers, until I ran out of fabric scraps...
And finally, I made you cotton butterfly wings!
The pattern of the patchwork squares is truly revealed when you lay the creation flat on the floor and step back enough to observe it. I hope you can enjoy it!
It is first by composing the range of fabrics that I found the inspiration to imagine this unique and artistic piece.
Initially, I created the textile design by coloring patterns within patterns, arranging the diamonds according to the lightness of the shades of blue. I assembled the fabrics, taking care to alternate the puzzle pieces in one direction, then in the other, following a very precise logic and rhythm, until I obtained a slightly hypnotic graphic, geometric effect!
Made entirely by hand in my workshop in Brussels, this creation took me three days of concentration: from the composition drawing, through the cutting, the folding work, the different assembly stages to the finishing touches.
This unique piece with exceptional fabrics authentically reflects my approach to promoting textile know-how and upcycling materials.
Before having the honor of working with these beautiful fabrics, I spent years collecting and studying them to enhance the stories they tell. This deep interest in combining textiles from all walks of life is at the heart of my creative process.
