“Kika” Wrap Skirt

A wrap skirt that generously wraps around the waist. An encounter between a woven loincloth from Mali, an ikat from Uzbekistan, and the polka dots printed on my great aunt's flamenco dresses.

It was by composing this range of fabrics with vibrant patterns and contrasting colors that we were inspired to create this unique piece. And before having the honor of reworking these beautiful fabrics in our atelier, Julie, the designer spent years collecting and studying the fabrics and the stories they tell. This deep interest in combining textiles of all kinds is at the heart of my creative process.

The blue, black and gold lined cotton fabric on the sides of the skirt is an artisanal weaving of cotton or "woven loincloth" that a friend gave me. It was woven by hand in Bamako, Mali.

The beautiful fabric placed on the front and back of the skirt is another handcrafted weaving called Ikat. It comes from Uzbekistan.

A vintage floral cotton print from the 80s connects these two fabrics thanks to colors and patterns.

The cut of the model is designed to adapt to your body regardless of its measurements. Worn high or low waisted, this skirt ties at the waist with a black bias cord. Its four meters of gathered ruffle form a nice volume and give it a nice movement. It's a real skirt that "turns"! It is easy to wear with a crop top or a wrap-around top from my collection, flat sandals or even high heels.

Made with great care and finesse, this unique piece, entirely hand-made, required eight hours of work, from researching the fabrics through the composition of the patchwork to the manufacturing stages.
