“White Stripes” Midi Skirt

A mid-length and elegant pencil skirt , slit at the back. A meeting between the Tie & Dye of a black and white Bazin made in Mali and the stripes of a hand-woven Faso danfani in Burkina Faso.

It is by composing this range of achromatic fabrics with graphic and contrasting patterns that I found the inspiration to create this unique piece. And before having the honor of reworking these beautiful fabrics in my studio, I spent years collecting and studying the fabrics and the stories they tell. This deep interest in combining textiles of all kinds is at the heart of my creative process.

The beautiful black and white Tie & Dye placed on the front and on the sides of the back is a prestigious textile, originating from Mali, which is called Bazin. It was tied, dyed and beaten in the Wolofo Bougou district of Bamako, by the great craftsmen Modibo Samake, Mariam Coulibaly and their teams.

I associated this Bazin with Faso danfani cotton weaving to create a graphic game of symmetrical but slightly irregular and staggered stripes, which gives all the charm of this unique piece.

The cut of the model is rather adjusted and close to the body, which has the effect of lengthening the silhouette and highlighting the curves of the body. For a harmonious fall and optimal comfort, I preferred to line the Bazin entirely with another cotton canvas. Its pretty slit cutout at the back allows you to walk and move freely. It can easily be worn with a crop top or a wrap top from my collection, flat sandals or even high heels.

Made with great care and finesse, this unique piece, entirely handmade , required ten hours of work, from the research of the fabrics through the composition of the patchwork to the manufacturing stages.
